A deal on CAP
If Britain has to give up its rebate, it should get something valuable in return. At least that is the idea behind this proposal.
The UK should offer to abandon its EU rebate in return for a review of European farm policy, according to a House of Lords report. It’s not a bad idea, as it would throw the ball back in France’s court. As they will never give up the CAP, we will not lose our rebate. Should they agree, we would have bought something worthwhile, for our consumers and third world producers alike. This being the EU though, we are more likely to lose our rebate in return for a superficial change in CAP, without any chance of its long term removal.
