What’s the Magic Word?
Leave Apparently. A senior Tory has at last admitted what the policy of renegotiation could actually mean in practice:
John Redwood, the shadow deregulation secretary, has refused to rule out a British withdrawal from the European Union should its vow to repatriate large swaths of policy face implacable opposition from Brussels. The policy always made sense only as long as the nuclear option was included. Without the withdrawal option on the table, the credibility of a Conservative Government’s negotiating position would be zero. I’ll be interested to see what the Government and the Illiberal Eurocrats have to say about this.
