Reacting to Rumours

The rumour of secret CIA jails may be no more than worthless gossip and political game playing. So the EU sprung into action.
“Were these events to have occurred, then clearly this would constitute a grave infringement of the values and rules of the European Union.” Franco Frattini, European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs
This despite the fact that he admits:
There is no evidence any European Union state has housed secret CIA detention centres.
Presumably, if a rumour were to surface tomorrow that Tony Blair is actually an alien, Mr Frattini would have something to say about that as well? PS these rules he is talking about wouldn’t be the charter of fundamental rights would it? A part of the rejected constitutional treaty.
