A Big Favour
An article obviously written prior to the Austrian change of heart, claims that Austria has done Turkey a big favour.
The irony of Vienna's angry veto against the Turks joining Europe is that Turkey is already flooding the Union in the one area that matters, trade. The EU veto won't scupper that trend. Indeed, in economic terms, the opposite is true. Accession would burden Turkish businesses with regulatory costs.
Very true. But do you think that the EU would not find some way of burdening Turkey with its useless regulations, even if it doesn't join? Its managed with Norway.
