Germany will have federal elections on September 18, 2005, as just (July 21, 8.15pm Berlin time) announced by German president Horst Koehler.

Whatever her faults, Ms Merkel can hardly be a worse chancellor than the incumbent. EU Serf wishes her well for the campaign ahead.
