Howards Border Plan

I had taken very little notice of Michael Howards immigration plan until I saw this from Liberal Democrat peer Lord Lester, a human rights expert:
He said such decisions would be incompatible with EU membership, a point confirmed by the EU justice commissioner, Franco Frattini. Mr Frattini's spokesman said that because of changes in EU asylum law "member states are no longer at liberty simply to say 'I don't want to hear your case', because they are bound to hear cases under EU law".
Conflict between the interests of the UK and the EU? Music to my ears.
