UK to be fined £305 million

Don't we just love the Common Agricultural Policy. On its own, its damaging enough, combine it with an incompetent UK government and the results are even worse.

It looks likely that the United Kingdom government has been fined as much as £305 million for its failings in implementing the new Single Payment Scheme of the Common Agricultural Policy.
We couldn't even distribute cash to farmers, and now the EU is to fine us for it. Just one question. Why should we pay the EU for incompetence, surely if anyone deserves this cash, it is the farmers who have been let down.

F**k them, if anyone in government pays this fine they should be strung up

Don't expect the EU to think logically about these things!!

I didn't know that, I shall tell my MEP tomorrow and check he is fully informed about it.

I've posted on an EU issue today as well - regulating divorce laws.

Can Margaret Beckett be forced to pay seeing as it was her cock-up...

What a terrible faux pas....using the words cock-up and Margaret Beckett in the same sentence...now that is a horrible thought.

I want to cry when I read things like this. I want to just sit on the end of the bed and rock quietly back and forth. I can't even reply rationally, let alone in a smart-arsed way.

Farmers let down?
Good!

Do what the French do, ignore any fine or court ruling. First consideration of any French government 'is it good for France?' I wish British government used this principle.

Remember the fines for Germany, Italy and Fwance for breaching the Growth and Stability Pact regarding deficits? You should file this fine in the same pending folder.

Don't worry chaps, after the "period of reflection" that Tony Blair valiantly got for us, the EU will definitely sort out this mess.

Totally worth giving up 15% of our rebate. Thank God Tony Blair is going to be representing us at the next EU summit next month. He won't do anything bad ... will he?

Brilliant argument there...

I believe that I am right in thinking that France has not paid any fines levied over its refusal to import British beef after the ban was lifted. I do hope that in this instance we follow their 'fine' example or do you think Blair will just capitulate like the spineless euro whipping boy that he is ?

It really is quite worrying when a prolific blogger like Serf just stops abrubtly. Does anyone know if he's ok?

Yes serf,If the government fail to implement the policy which is good for farmers then the compensation have to go to the affected farmers..Not to EU. £305 million question, right?

I totally agree the farmers not the eu should get the money, I have found on my travels around Europe that the polices differ in different countries, I bought an italian property in Calabria and noticed that certain areas are compensated by the EU for one thing or another, we know where this mony come from the fines that the UK incur.
