No Truck with Populism

Today the Guardian has the following words of wisdom concerning the French and Dutch No votes:

The painful truth is that the people can be as wrong, confused and short-sighted as the politicians.

Which may well be true, but I doubt if the people are ever as wrong, confused or as short sighted as the average columnist in the Guardian.
